NEWS that work is underway on designing a new access road from Morriston Hospital to the M4 has been welcomed by Regional Senedd member Altaf Hussain.
Welsh Conservative Dr Hussain contacted Swansea Bay Health Board chief Mark Hackett to ask what was happening with the access road which is part of turning the Morriston site into a new health hub.
In his reply, Mr Hackett said that they have had funding to design the road from the Swansea Bay City Deal and this is currently being pursued.
Dr Hussain said: “I queried what was happening in the light of the Welsh Labour Government’s new roads review which has seen the majority of new roads being scrapped. However, I am assured that as this is an access road it is not affected by this new policy.
“I gather that the health board is seeking funding from Welsh Government for a host of new developments planned for Morriston and that this road is part of that package.
“Morriston is set to play a key role in the provision of health services to the entire region and it is being re-developed as part of the Arch scheme which bring the health board together with Swansea University and also the Hywel Dda Health board.”
