A CHERRY blossom tree has been planted in the grounds of Penyfai Church in Wales Primary School by Regional Senedd member Altaf Hussain.
Dr Hussain, who lives in the village, was asked by National Trust Cymru to nominate a school within the region to receive the tree which they donated. It is part of their Blossomwatch Campaign to highlight the importance of trees and the joys of nature.
Head Mike Street was asked to choose the type of tree and he said that there were already Japanese Cherry Blossom trees planted in the grounds when the school was first opened. He said: “I want to thank Altaf Hussain for choosing our school to be part of the National Trust Cymru’s project. It reinforces the importance of nature which is so important for our school. This is something the children will remember for years to come.”
Dr Hussain said that he was delighted to plant the tree.
He added: “It would have been nice of we could have had a tree for every school locally but I was pleased to nominate Penyfai because as a local councillor for many years before becoming a Senedd member, I have many dealings with the school, Mr Street and the pupils. I know that they will all appreciate this gift from the National Trust.”
