On Friday, Altaf called into the Porthcawl Museum, John Street, Porthcawl, to meet some of the volunteers who run the museum.
After a tour, Altaf congratulated everyone for the fantastic work they did on behalf of the community.
The museum had at one stage faced closure due to the threat of the building being sold. However, after a lot of hard work by a team of dedicated voluteers, led by Elaine Newman, Loretta Wilfort, Ceri Joseph (Secretary), Pam Revell (Office Manager), Selena Hardie and Sheila Cashmore. the premises were secured for the benefit of Porthcawl, and this wonderful chance to escape into our past will surely be an asset to tourism in the town.
The museum houses a number of fascinating exhibits, from a mock-up of a WW1 trench, through to an Andersen shelter, medical memerobilia and even a 17th Century canon that was discovered on a beach locally in Porthcawl! Altaf said "This was an extremely enjoyable visit. The dedication of these great volunteers is obvious, and they have created something special in the heart of the town, where it truly is a 'jewel in the crown'. Long may their work continue".
