Dr Altaf Hussain AM has paid a visit to TES Aviation in Bridgend, to learn more about how Welsh Businesses are driving value through knowledge and succeeding in the global race.
TES is an example of a thriving business in Bridgend. It now manages a client aircraft engine portfolio valued in excess of $3.5bn and offers an integrated management solution providing engineering services including borescope inspections, aircraft engines for lease and quality overhauled condition engine parts. It is at the heart of the aerospace industry 'cluster' in South Wales, which is currently experiencing an unprecedented boom.
Altaf said: "It was great to have a guided tour of their premises and find out more about what the Welsh Government could do to provide better support to businesses such as TES, which are at the heart of the knowledge economy. Their key message to politicians is that the support available is useful, but needs to be more flexible to accommodate the bespoke needs that a skills-driven business such as this identifies, particularly when it comes to training. The Welsh Government should be actively listening to businesses such as TES, which are best-placed to understand how the skills sets available to them should be developed and how government help can best be tailored to fit these needs".
